Prof Yeoh Eng-Kiong

Professor of Public Health, Director of the Centre for Health Systems and Policy Research, JC School of Public Health and Primary Care, The Chinese University of Hong Kong

Professor Yeoh is Professor of Public Health, Director of the Centre for Health Systems and Policy Research at the JC School of Public Health and Primary Care, and Co-director of the Institute of Health Equity. His research is in health systems, services, financing and policy studying how the complex components of health systems interact and interrelate in advancing population health. He evaluated Hong Kong’s District Health System, a transformative policy in the primary care ecosystem and studied demand and supply side financing instruments in strategic purchasing for primary care. He has led and collaborated in research projects in health system & policy with academic institutions and networks, World Bank Institute and World Health Organization.

He was Secretary for Health, Welfare and Food of the Government of the HKSAR (1999 – 2004), head & the first Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Hospital Authority (1990-1999), with responsibility for transforming the organisation and management of the corporatised public healthcare system. He is a past President of the International Hospital Federation and was awarded the Gold Bauhinia Star (GBS) in 2005 for his public services.
